“I thought I would smoke for the rest of my life.”
I smoked for 48 years. And believe me, I tried to quit. Patches, gum, medication, laser therapy, willpower... I'd stop, but somehow I always ended up smoking again.
I knew I wanted to stop. But if I'm truthful, I was also scared of quitting. I was scared of the cravings, the withdrawal, and of having to spend every day fighting myself not to smoke.
And after trying before, there was always that little voice in my head: what if I fail again?
Then Rico and I started looking at my smoking differently. Instead of treating me like I simply needed more discipline, we started looking at what was actually keeping me stuck.
Something changed. I stopped feeling like I was preparing to give something up, and started feeling excited about finally being free. When the time came to smoke my final cigarette, I was ready.
